Woolworth building

Now to one old classics named the Woolworth building which is over 100 years today and which was finished in year 1913. The building has once in time been the tallest skyscraper in the world with a height of 241 meter (791 feet) and with 57 floors and 34 elevators. This was the second skyscraper in the world which was taller that the 200 meters (656 feet) and defeat also the previously skyscraper Metropolitan Life Tower record holder with a height of 28 meter (92 feet). Woolworth building was also a building which was world tallest skyscraper in seventeen years before the Trump Building or 40 Wall Street Building toke the title by world tallest building in year 1930. Woolworth building was also a symbol for the American materialism success.

   The skyscraper was under construction between the years 1910 to 1913 and is designed of the architect Cass Gilbert. The style of this building is Neo – Ghotic. Woolworth building was for beginning to a company named F.W Woolworth Company which the building was theirs headquarters. The company owned the building to the year 1998 before the company went out of the business. Today, part of the building on the top floors many apartments have been created which gives wonderful views. The skyscraper is in the south Manhattan and can be easily viewed from the Brooklyn Bridge.

   The skyscraper is mostly made of cupper, steel, terra cotta and lime stone. The skyscraper looked like if it is a gigantic cathedral which also was a nicknamed before. Even the interior can some of us draw a parallel between cathedral paintings and so on. However the building gets some critics before for the cathedral feature. The building is a typically a steel skeleton frame and the high speed elevators was invented which was a good idea to use when this one is a really tall one. The skyscraper is also a fireproof building.

   The Woolworth building is preservation by US National Register of Historical Places, US National Historic Landmard and NYC Landmark.

   Many movies have recorded with the Woolworth building motive like Ugly Betty series, Crocodile Dundee and Enchanted which is a Disney movie.

   But however this one is one of my old favorite skyscraper with fascinating detailed and fancy building.

Byggnaden har en gång i tiden varit världens högsta skyskrapa med en höjd på 241 meter och med 57 våningar samt 34 liftar. Det var den andra skyskrapan i världen som blev högre än 200 meter och slog även föregående skyskrapa Metropolitan Life Tower världsrekord med en höjd på 28 meter. Woolworth building var även världens högsta byggnad i ungefär 17 år innan Trump Building eller 40 Wall Street building tog titeln som världens högsta byggnad år 1930. Woolworth building var även en symbol för den amerikanska materialismens framgångar.

   Byggnaden var under konstruktion åren 1910 till 1913 och är designad av arkitekten Cass Gilbert. Stilen på byggnaden är av Ny - Gotisk stil. Woolworth building var i början tillför ett företag som hette F.W. Woolworth company vilket blev deras högkvarter. Företaget höll till i byggnaden till och med till år 1998 innan företaget gick i konkurs. Idag används en del av byggnaden som lägenheter vilket finns inom dom högre våningsplanerna. Skyskrapan ligger i södra Manhattan och kan lätt ses ifrån Brooklyn bron.

   Byggnaden består mest utav koppar, stål, terra cotta och kalksten. Skyskrapan ser ut som en jätte gigantisk katedral vilket den även fick smeknamnet för ifrån början. Hur som helst fick byggnaden även kritik för sin katedral liknande utseende till början. Även innanför byggnaden liknar den som en katedral med all dess utsmyckningar och målningar. Byggnaden var även en av de stålskelett byggnaden och höghastighetshissen vilket har utvecklats passade väl till denna byggnad som är så pass hög. Byggnaden var även bevisat at ha en hög eldsäkerhets system.

   Woolworth building är även bevarad byggnad av US National Register of Historical Places, US National Historic Landmard och NYC Landmark.

   Det har även spelats in många filmer vid Woolworth building som t ex Ugly Betty serie, någon sekvens ifrån Crocodile Dundee och Disney filmen Enchanted.

   Men hur som helst är det här nog en av mina gamla favoriter. En väldigt detaljerad och utsmyckad byggnad.
