The number of skyscraper

A really fascinating statistic which I think is about how many skyscrapers have been built per year. You would get a fascinating curve from this. With the skyscraper we mean from the definition from the Emporis Standards on height of 100 meter. The curve can be seen at the diagram below about the numbers of skyscrapers evolution from year to year and this is from 1900 to 2014.

   You can see in the diagram about how the numbers of skyscrapers have been developed from the beginning from 1900 to 1930. Thereafter the numbers of skyscraper drops drastically because of the great 1930 economic depression and the evolution of skyscrapers were very inactive on the 1940 and the Second World War II may have something to do with that? But the most numbers of new skyscrapers which was built in one year on 1930 was the year 1931 with 44 skyscrapers and it’s the same year when the Empire State Building was finished.

   But thereafter the number of skyscrapers begins to increase slowly in the 1950, and thereafter to increase with a higher rate on 1970. The U.S. oil crises in 1970 and 1980 didn´t affect significant the constructions of new skyscrapers (you can only see a little deep in that time period). The reason for that, were probably other countries like China begins to build skyscrapers.

   Thereafter on 2000 the number of skyscrapers begins to increase much faster and the record for the numbers of skyscraper per year is 690 on 2008, but now in this year 2014 the new record may happens with 765 skyscrapers per year.

   Moreover you can also see that the curve is a really impressive explosive curve which can be seen as an exponential curve.

En mycket fascinerande statistik som jag tycker är då om hur många skyskrapor som har byggts per år. Man kommer att få en fascinerande kurva från detta. Skyskrapa menar då vi med en höjd på 100 meter. Kurvan kan ses i diagrammet om hur det har utvecklat sig ifrån år till år där vi har börjat med 1900 talet och till 2014.

   Man kan se hur antalet skyskrapor har utvecklat sig ifrån början av 1900 och till 1930 talet till den stora depressionen och därmed hände det ingenting märkvärdigt under andra världskriget perioden på 1940. Som max under 1930 talet byggdes det 44 antal skyskrapor för året 1931.

   Men därefter började antalet att öka långsamt under 1950 talet för att snabba på under 1970 talet, men oljekrisen på 1970 and 1980 talet påverkade inte nämnvärt skyskrapa bygget som man kan se och det berodde på att även andra länder började bygga skyskrapor som t ex Kina.

   Därefter på 2000 talet började antalet skyskrapor accelerera rejält och rekordet för antalet nya skyskrapor är på 690 stycken på 2008, men det håller på att bli ett nytt rekord som kan bli 765 stycken skyskrapor år 2014.

   För övrigt kan man säga att kurvan som man ser på figuren är exponentiell och antalet skyskrapor växer explosivt.
